Iran's Cruel, Pointless Games

Iran’s mullah-led government seems determined to keep stoking tensions with the United States and the rest of the world. Despite President Obama’s offer to negotiate, it has blocked serious talks on its nuclear program and other issues. It has backpedaled on its agreement to ship enriched uranium out of the country, and it continues to threaten and abuse its own citizens who dare to speak out.

Tehran’s latest outrage is to accuse three American hikers, held for more than three months, of spying. It has offered no evidence to support that charge. The Americans — Shane Bauer, Joshua Fattal and Sarah Shourd — were hiking in the Kurdish region of Iraq when they crossed into Iran accidentally, according to family members.
