Britain Ruined by Brown's Obsession

Nothing has disturbed me more about our unfathomable Prime Minister than his adoption, as a motto, of the poem Invictus by W E Henley. Christopher Howse, writing from a religious standpoint on this newspaper's website, lamented the espousal of the sentiments of the poem by people who frankly don't understand what it is about. My feelings are similar, though if anything darker. Henley's poem is a defiant, although not entirely convincing, statement of atheism. As an atheist myself, I can therefore discern in it a perspective that Mr Howse, who fears God, may not. Then, however, I recall that Mr Brown is a son of the manse; and he has subtly but unequivocally in the past allied himself with the Christian faith. What on earth is he doing playing footsie with Henley?
