One day two per cent, the next five per cent, perhaps even a glimmer, occasionally, of seven per cent. If one thing is sure, it is that between now and polling day the Conservative lead will be up and down like the proverbial courtesan's underwear. It may even, sometimes, disappear altogether. This remains an election whose outcome is hard to predict, and that is why. Certain things are, however, becoming apparent.
