Clegg Has the Crucial Momentum

'The Tory party," one of its leading strategists told me yesterday, "has only two moods – panic or complacency." Last week, it was the first. This week, after David Cameron's strong performance in Thursday's leaders' debate, it is the second.

So it should be said as bluntly as possible: Nick Clegg is winning. I don't mean that Mr Clegg will be prime minister. I don't even mean that he won the second debate: although he did well, Mr Cameron beat him on points. But I do mean that the Clegg insurgency answers the public's anger. He still has the momentum. He articulates what this election is about.
