Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva may be peeved by the disruptive and violent actions of the red shirts lately. But he should have showed more interest in the proposal by his opponents to bargain over the timing of the next election. The rejection of a 30-day cooling-off period before the House is adjourned for national polls has unnecessarily increased tension. Mr Abhisit has done nothing to diminish fears of more bloodshed in Bangkok streets. In his TV appearance yesterday, the premier said that steps were being taken to solve the crisis, but gave no details.
