Tories Must Fight Vote Reform Fantasy

Our coalition increasingly reminds me of Brief Encounter. The Liberal Democrats, played by Celia Johnson, fall for a Tory charmer, played by Trevor Howard. For the Lib Dems, there is a chance of breaking out of the boring life they have led for years – decades – since they last tasted the aphrodisiac of power. What they propose is not especially proper – what would their friends say if they found out? But both Trev and Celia are set on consummation, however radical that might seem. What they want, though, is rooted in fantasy.
