Silvio Berlusconi is an unlikely follower of Oscar Wilde, not least because of his announcement this week that it is "better to have a passion for beautiful women than to be gay". Yet this is one world leader who has always held that it is better to be talked about than not. Indeed, the well never seems to run dry. In recent days, we have goggled at further allegations of unions between Italy's prime minister and prostitutes; at tales that he used a private jet to lay on Class B drugs for the gaggles of young ladies that he delights in assembling; and at stories that he or his entourage had intervened on behalf of a woman detained by the police in an unrelated case.
