British Public Holds Thatcherite Views

Britain in 2010 is in many respects a more Thatcherite country than it was when Margaret Thatcher was in power. That is the clear message of the latest survey of British Social Attitudes, published today, and it is a timely corrective to the nonsense spouted by Left-wing commentators after the student riots. This is not a country on the verge of revolution. Rather, it is one of several European nations with lots of angry students supported by anarchists and public-sector workers. Unlike certain European electorates, however, we do not live in a fantasy world of limitless state resources.
