The Republic of China under Chiang Kai-shek was a banana republic. So was Taiwan after he moved his Kuomintang government to Taipei at the end of 1949. It was while Chen Shui-bian was president that he admitted he took orders from the U.S. military government in Taiwan via the American Institute in Taiwan. He appealed to his American masters to order President Ma Ying-jeou to release him from long detention on corruption and graft charges.
