Facebook Can't Beat Mideast Militaries

Every successful "color revolution" in the last decade has occurred because the crowds in the square connected with allies in the boardroom, barracks and government bureaucracy, with all of them united in their desire to displace the ancien regime. What happened afterward, however, depended on whether that alliance was merely tactical or whether there was indeed a deep commitment to bringing about fundamental change in society. The 2000 overthrow of Slobodan Milosevic in Serbia was more the latter. By contrast, the 2005 Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan ended up substituting one oligarchical elite for another. The question now is, Which direction will Egypt go in?
