To critics of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Rostam Qasemi's transition from its ranks to Iran's oil minister signifies an encroachment of the military to rule the country. While evidence of such intention is scant and would be at odds with a mandate it has upheld, the increasing possibility of military confrontation with the United States means that the profile of the Guards is set to grow and grow.
