Tony Abbott spent the weekend telling anyone who would listen (including the Queen, who had to) that he was ready for government.
He was, he insisted, no longer the impetuous youth maligned during his university days as The Mad Monk or the political tyro christened Captain Catholic. He had matured and progressed, and anyone who had studied his career should be reassured at the way he has changed.
