Morocco is the first Arab country that the U.S. didn’t invade in order to force free and fair multi-party elections more than once. The North African nation held its latest elections this past Friday… and the response from the Obama White House was crickets.
While the State Department issued the usual cautiously couched statement, the president—who made headlines in his 2009 speech in Cairo calling for free elections, constitutional rights for women and religious minorities, tolerance and peace—got everything he wished for in Morocco. Yet he declined to take a victory lap or even publicly take notice.
