Canada's Conservatives Change Tune on China

The Prime Minister travels to Beijing early next week, where he will be received much more warmly than in the days when the Conservatives were the party of principled opposition to the Chinese government’s more oppressive excesses.

Back in Opposition in 2005, now-Immigration Minister Jason Kenney stood in Beijing and called China a “totalitarian one-party state. “It continues to have forced labour camps. It continues to deny freedom of religion and freedom of expression,” he said.
