Britons Want Diplomatic Options for Falklands Dispute

As the 30th anniversary of the start of the Falklands War approaches, most Britons believe their country should be cautious in handling its oil exploration operations around the islands, a new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll has found.

In 2011, British-based oil and gas exploration company Rockhopper Exploration Plc announced it could recover 430 million barrels of crude from a concession located 80 miles off the Falklands coast. Last month, the Argentinean government complained to the United Nations (UN) over the presence of HMS Dauntless—one of Britain’s most powerful warships—in the region.
