The 19th-century Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard would have been appalled – but not surprised – at the conclusion of the World Happiness Report, commissioned for the United Nations Conference on Happiness, that the Danes are the happiest people on Earth (Canada comes fifth, with special mention of happy francophone Quebeckers; Brazil only 25th, in spite of the bossa nova and the girl from Ipanema).
