No Easy Alternative to Austerity in Europe

Resolving the eurozone crisis is dependent on the continuing willingness of Germany to bail out struggling economies. That in turn depends on the austerity measures that are intrinsic to the stability pact being delivered. Why should the German taxpayer, in whom the concept of prudence is deeply ingrained, continue to write cheques for people who are not prepared to accept the consequences of their own fiscal irresponsibility?
