Access to strategic minerals is a matter of national security. We need a range of non-fuel minerals – from antimony to zinc – for defense technologies that protect America. The Defense Department, the Government Accountability Office and the Congressional Research Service have all issued reports on the impact that mineral dependency has on our national security. Their conclusions range from alarm at the extent of our foreign dependency to assurance that global markets can meet defense needs.
