Cameron Must Have Big Say in EU Treaty

In his discussions with Mrs Merkel, Mr Cameron is entitled – even obliged – to take a robust stand in the British interest, whether or not he ruffles feathers in the process. A few weeks ago, in the House of Commons, he said that the eurozone must make up or break up. By this he meant that it should either become a proper currency union with a fiscal policy effectively set by Germany and underpinned by a new treaty; or it must accept that some countries will have to leave the euro. Mr Cameron appears to favour the former – though it is hard to believe it would be in Britain’s interest for the eurozone to be transformed into a superstate run from Berlin.
