Losing a Phantom fighter to a Syrian shoot-down is bad enough, but now Ankara is in a diplomatic morass. Neither the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, nor Russia, nor regional allies will back any escalation of the tensions between Turkey and Syria. Ankara's only feasible option is self-restraint.
