In the days when Liberal Democrats openly advocated joining the euro, they would incessantly remind us that 60 per cent of British exports go to Europe. Oddly, they appeared to think this was a good thing. With the eurozone’s gathering crisis helping to lock Britain into recession, who can now doubt that our exposure to moribund continental economies is a national vulnerability that must be remedied?
