In 1926, the young George Romney — future Governor of Michigan and US presidential contender — came to Britain as a Mormon missionary, preaching the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Glasgow and London for two years. This week, his younger son, Mitt — former Governor of Massachusetts and presumptive Republican nominee for the White House — makes his own pilgrimage to these shores, to “listen and learn” rather than to proselytise.
