Olympic Games in Troubled Times

The British economy is sinking deeper into a double-dip recession. Property values there remain depressed. Public sector employment and services have been slashed, and there may be more pain for many years to come.London, it’s time to put on a good show.

Friday’s opening of the Olympic Games came at a time when the British people and many others around the world feel the stress of joblessness and debt and struggle to maintain living standards.

The Olympics won’t make anyone forget those troubles. But the Summer Games will give us an opportunity to celebrate the best of the world’s athleticism and the spirit of friendly competition.
