In other words, Pussy Riot did something artists always aim to do but rarely achieve: it made people think and question their opinions and beliefs. When that happens, people usually reach for things of which they are certain — they try to remember who they are. This is difficult for Russians as a group precisely because we have not created a story about ourselves to replace the Soviet one. Perhaps that process started has finally started.
