Parallels to the Lebanese civil war and the 1982 Hama massacre are increasingly seen in Syria. While a process of molding homogenous areas into ethnic militias resembles what happened in Lebanon, a recently declassified report describing how events in 1982 saw international media launch "an inaccurate propaganda campaign in favor of the opposition" amid "growing isolation of the regime" could well describe today.
