On the face of it, a political party created to cleanse Indian politics ought to be good news. Over the 18 months that I’ve tracked the so-called Anna Hazare anti-corruption movement, I’ve argued that for it to be effective its middle class supporters need to participate in India’s raucous democracy rather than reject politics and politicians as beneath contempt.
Nonetheless, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about the new party’s prospects.
