As the world's major international news channels switched to live coverage of China's new leaders as they lined up on the red-carpeted stage in the Great Hall of the People last week, a visiting professor at Beijing University boarded a bus. The BBC, CNN, al-Jazeera and Sky were among the many broadcasters that suspended all other programming while they relayed live to the world the identities of the seven men with jet-black hair who filed across the stage in identical suits.
