Spend any time in Japan these days, and you can’t help but notice: This country may be less than 1 percent Christian, but it’s 100 percent Christmas. Hearing the carols blaring from sidewalk loudspeakers in this overwhelmingly Buddhist and Shinto country, you wonder, how did Japan buy into such a foreign tradition?
