Israel Deserves to Join the UN Security Council

Before the fall of the Berlin Wall, West Germany was twice a member and East Germany once held a chair. A unified Germany has been elected three times, most recently in 2011. And while Israel has never been a member, the Security Council has always included an Arab state since the panel first met in 1946. Over the years, 19 Arab nations have served. Next year, the 20th, Saudi Arabia, will take a council seat for the first time. Perhaps most surprisingly, Germany has been a steadfast Israeli ally. It should act like one now.
