Any deal that may remove such a vile means of killing from a regime that’s shown no compunction about slaughtering civilians is worth considering, and applauding if it proves successful. We are well aware there is no simple solution to a civil war with bad actors on all sides. But given this administration’s unsteady approach to the conflict, it remains to be seen whether the agreement will do more than buy Bashar Assad more time to continue murdering by more conventional means.
