If I hear another English journalist call Alex Salmond "wily" I will scream. It now seems to be compulsory to prefix Salmond's name with either that word, or even worse "canny". I even did it myself the other day on Sky News when I was trying to explain a puzzle about Salmond's tactics in the referendum, and then suffered a vocabulary failure live on air under questioning from Sky's Adam Boulton. I used the "w" word. Afterwards I felt a deep sense of shame.
