Ever since Toronto Mayor Rob Ford began his as-yet-uncontained personal and professional meltdown, I have occasionally found myself defending the Toronto Star: No, I’ll say, the Star doesn’t just go around making stuff up about people and running it on A1. No, two of its well-respected reporters didn’t simply lie about seeing a video in which Mr. Ford appeared to smoke crack. No, Mr. Ford didn’t catch another reporter skulking around his backyard. Things like that. Basic stuff.
