David Cameron must have known he would draw flak for suggesting, in the run-up to Easter, that British Christians should be “more evangelical” about their faith, and that all of us should be “more confident about our status as a Christian country”. But he could not have predicted the storm of debate that would ensue, especially in the wake of the letter to this newspaper from some of the country’s leading secularists, angrily denouncing his position.
