Iraq Crisis Has No Quick Fix

It has taken almost 1500 years for the Middle East to reach the latest stage of sectarian schism. As such, it is optimistic or even delusional to think a rapid military strike or direct intervention by the West will secure Sunni-Shiite peace in Iraq. Recall that almost a century ago, Britain and France in effect created nation states such as Iraq and Syria. Those concocted borders suited Western interests in oil and security alliances, but paid no heed to the ethnic or religious ties of the people who lived there.
