Over British Prime Minister David Cameron's objections, European leaders resolved in a backroom deal last week to nominate former Luxembourg premier Jean-Claude Juncker as the European Commission's next president. And thanks to another backroom deal between the body's two dominant voting blocs, German Social Democrat Martin Schulz on Tuesday won a second term as president of the European Parliament.
