The full details of the international horror that has befallen Australia and the world in the skies above eastern Ukraine will not be clear for some time. Yet, as our Prime Minister has made clear, this was not an accident; this was a crime against innocent people. Tony Abbott has said, rightly, it is “deeply, deeply unsatisfactory” that Russia’s ambassador to Australia attempted to sidestep the issue and shift the blame to Ukraine — even though the jet was shot down by pro-Russian rebels over territory they held and probably with Russian-supplied weaponry. In our mourning we are decidedly angry.
