China Speeds off the Fiscal Cliff

Amid concerns that China’s central government is not spending sufficient sums to rescue the economy, Finance Minister Lou Jiwei on Thursday provided detail about the country’s budget for this year. The deficit, from figures he released, will amount to 2.7% of projected gross domestic product, not the 2.3% that Premier Li Keqiang revealed the same day in his address to the National People’s Congress in Beijing.
