A Canadian Soldier Dies in Iraq

On Saturday, Canada lost its first soldier in Iraq. The circumstances of his death are not yet entirely clear. What is known is that a group of Canadian commandos, deployed to Iraq to assist and train Kurdish peshmerga militia, were travelling at night in an area that had seen heavy action between peshmerga troops and ISIS terrorists. Somehow, the Canadians were mistaken for the enemy, and were fired on by their Kurdish allies. Sgt. Andrew Joseph Doiron, of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, was killed. Three other Canadian soldiers were injured and have been evacuated for treatment.
