The EU Must Reform

It was apparent during both the Scottish independence referendum last year and the more recent general election that the voice of business matters to the electorate. In Scotland, concerns that big companies might relocate to England, and fears of the consequent negative effects on tax revenues and jobs, may have played a key part in winning the day for the No campaign. Then, during the election campaign, Ed Miliband’s perceived anti-business rhetoric alarmed many people in and beyond the world of commerce, helping to seal Labour’s fate. Even the contenders for the party’s leadership now concede this played a big part in their defeat.
