Another former lieutenant governor as sagacious as Onley, Edward Roberts of St. John’s, was very fond of the maxim that, “opposition parties don’t win elections, governments lose them.” In that aphorism is all we need to know about this fall campaign. Are Harper and the Conservatives an exhausted government, or not? On that, not campaign timing, length of race, or any other incidental tactical consideration does this race depend.
