The forces that have propelled Mr Corbyn to prominence also threaten Mr Cameron. The Labour contender is a beneficiary of the anti-establishment, anti-capitalist and anti-outsider atavism that has fuelled the rise of populism of the right and left across Europe. These are the sentiments that the Tory “outs” will seek to harness to defeat the prime minister in the planned referendum on EU membership.
