China Must Also Learn from History

Most Japanese more or less share a sense of contrition for the fact that Japan’s wartime behavior caused huge damage to other Asian countries. Japan and China actually share this perception. So there may be no need for Japan to be excessively sensitive to the name of the event.

It is, however, also true that China has been using history-related issues as a means to ratchet up its critical rhetoric against Japan since the late 1990s.
