Reviewing the parade together with the world's leaders in Tiananmen Square, Xi will have to think about China's long history and to what future he can direct his country and the world. Is it a horrible repetition of Cold-War-era confrontation that divided the world in two, or is it a proposal of peace for all?
The first path is, obviously, tempting for big powers, emerging or existing, but is strewn with cases of auto-combustion of a sort. The second path has been tried, but thus far left uncompleted.
That second path was elaborated upon by JFK in his "Strategy of Peace" speech.
