On election night, the PM-designate said he would listen to all 337 of his fellow MPs. Not for long, I bet, but while he is still seeking opinion everywhere, here’s a modest proposal on tone: more modesty, please. Not regarding himself necessarily. After such a personal triumph, not unlike his father’s in 1968, a little gloating would be excusable — though only a little: in his second election, his father won by only two seats.
