That is not a trivial error. Considering that polling is now the be-all and end-all of tactical political management, there is remarkably little examination of why this supposedly super-sophisticated, scientifically tuned methodology might have become so unreliable. David Cameron is about to decide on a date for the EU referendum that presumably will rely heavily on polling data: a mistake could have the most spectacular consequences. So it really matters.
