Developed as an Alpine-style resort during the French protectorate in Morocco in the 1930s, much of the architecture throughout Ifrane bears Swiss influences, like pine panelling, pointed roofs and stonewalls. Originally designed as a ‘hill station', Ifrane's architecture, and its pine and chestnut trees, were imported from France.
