Do We Really Understand the Impact of Global Trade?

Earlier this year, research that led to an academic paper from several economists titled “The China Shock” found that between 1999 and 2011, the growth in imports from China killed about 2.4 million American jobs, one million or so of them in manufacturing. That's a much greater impact than most economists had been assuming, and the 2.4 million figure has come.
