It has now been almost a decade since Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei traveled to Bandar Abbas, Iran's major port in the Persian Gulf, and declared that the Iranian navy and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps counterpart would be “the symbols of the might of the Iranian nation.” His speech came against the backdrop of a massive reorganization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which transformed the navy (alongside the Qods Force) as Iran's chief mechanism to project power.
