Senseless to Compare Religious Majoritarianism in India, Pakistan

The other day I spoke at the Stimson Center in Washington on religious majoritarianism in the Indian subcontinent. In a nutshell, I made two broad points: First, when it comes to minority rights, India's record over the past seven decades is incomparably better than Pakistan's. Second, anyone who cares about pluralism in India needs to worry about the direction in which the country is headed as attacks — both physical and verbal — on the 170-million-strong Muslim minority become increasingly commonplace.
