Upon his inauguration, many supporters approvingly noted how U.S. President Barack Obama had garnered almost as much international enthusiasm as domestic approval. In many parts of the world, particularly Europe, approval ratings of U.S. leadership surged following a sustained period in the doldrums.
But as the global economy continued to flounder, food prices spiked and America's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continued, many became restless and frustrated with the globe's sole superpower.
So where, if at all, did the United States go astray? Using Gallup survey research, RealClearWorld set out to discover which countries are less enthusiastic about America's global leadership in 2010 - and why.
